Windlass Group

75 years ago, in 1943, Windlass Group was incorporated at ‘Ghanta Ghar’ of Dehradun, the state capital of Uttarakhand. Since then the group has given employment to 2000 people globally and expanded its footprint worldwide. Headquartered at Haridwar Road, Dehradun, Windlass is the only name in the state to be known world-wide.

Windlass began its journey in 1941 when a young and motivated 22 year-old Mr Ved Prakash Windlass moved from Ambala Cantonment to the Doon Valley. He started working as a government contractor and later started his own cutlery unit in 1943 by the name of ‘Windlass Steelcrafts’.

Windlass Steelcrafts (WSC), the flagship company of Windlass Group was established in 1943 by Mr. Ved Prakash Windlass for manufacturing Khukri for the British Gurkha Regiment. WSC is now the largest Sword Manufacturing Company in the world, with state-of-the-art integrated manufacturing facilities in Dehradun, India, and Toledo, Spain. WSC customers range from large blockbuster Hollywood movies to the leading Army’s and Governments around the world.

WSC with its marketing arm Atlanta Cutlery based in Atlanta, USA markets its products all over the world. Windlass’s products can be seen in major Hollywood Blockbusters like Gladiator, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, etc. Armed Forces around the world procure Windlass’s state-of-the-art swords and other armaments for ceremonial purposes. Some of the leading buyers are the US Marines, UK, Colombia, Singapore, Indian Army, Chile, etc.

Windlass Engineers and Services Private Limited (WESPL) established in 2006 is an ISO 9001:2015 and API – 6A, 16A, 16C and 16D Licensed company of Windlass Group of Companies.

Located on the Haridwar Road, Dehradun, WESPL uses state-of-the-art manufacturing processes manned by qualified and experienced team to manufacture precision-based oil-field drilling equipment such as BOP Control Units, Test Units, Water Blaster, Flanges, Ring Joint Gaskets, Hammer Unions, Swivel Joints, Pup Joints, etc. These products are manufactured in accordance with API (American Petroleum Institute) specifications. Built-in 1993, Windlass Shopping Complex was the first fully integrated shopping mall of the city. The shopping complex revolutionized the retail landscape of Dehradun. Located on Rajpur Road, just opposite the then ISBT, the shops commanded premium rates and were most sought after by any business. The complex was the only one to provide ample parking space and a high-quality shopping experience in the city.

Equipped with two levels of retail, office, and hospitality space the complex continues to be the home of many leading stores and offices of the city including the largest public sector bank of India and one of the leading hotels of the city, Hotel Ambassador.

Hotel Ambassador came into being in 1996 on the second floor of the Windlass Shopping Complex. The hotel is one of the leading business hotels in the city due to its central location and vast amenities and services.

A leader of its time, the first full-service luxury apartment community in the up-market Dalanwala area was started in 2006 and completed in 2009.
